Can I be notified when content is published to my site?

Absolutely. There is a feature that will allow you to specify that an email should be send to a particular address every time that your production server is updated. To enable this, simply send a request to support indicating which web site you would like notification about, and at what email address.

Once I have created new media, do I publish them when I publish the page that uses them?

When you publish a page that has related media, the related media are also published (unless you are doing a bulk-publish, in which case you specify if the related media are also published.) You do have to make sure that the media is checked in, though, otherwise, you will not be able to publish the media or the page.

Is there an alternative 'space' that prevents a line return from entering between the two words?

&nbsp; = Non-Breaking space (you have to include everything starting with the ampersand and ending with the semi-colon)

When I attempt to open a story, I get the message "You have requested an encrypted page that contains some unencrypted information.". Is this a concern?

The problem is that the site you are previewing is unsecure, and it is wrapped in the secure CMS frameset. So, the error message is telling you that the secure CMS is trying to render unsecure content, which is exactly correct and not something to worry about.
